Do you? Or do you not?

So here's the thing. I'm all for people being happy, and in love, and getting married.

I am, however, not for people saying to me (after I express my excitement for their forthcoming nuptials), "When is it your chance?"

Chance? Chance at what?

2chance

verb
intransitive verb
1
a : to take place, come about, or turn out by chance : happen chanced to rain that day>b : to have the good or bad luck chanced to meet>
I have taken the above to mean that it is my bad luck that I am not married...seriously?

Anyway, it is at this point in any bloggers blog that they start throwing down statistics, such as "83% of all marriages end in divorce....fact." I, however, will say no such thing. To make matters worse, I am Indian...I should've been married when I was, like, ten. The older you get, the more annoying your aunties get - "I went for so-and-so's wedding last week. So nice. Such a nice fella she found man." Barf.

Hasn't anyone on the planet ever watched Bridget Jones? It's charming and endearing to be a pudgy spinster these days...

An Open Love Letter to Google

Dear Google

Thank you for being your googley self and making my life easy. You organise my shit even though I am about as organised as a hundred toothpicks laying all across the floor after they've fallen out of their box (minor Rain Man flashback - if you can make the same association as me I'll call you a BOSS!).

You sign me into Youtube so they (it?) can organise all my songs and put them into cool playlists, so I can go back and re-discover songs I haven't heard in years, so I can satisfy my ear craving for the MSU Accafellas (I say it loud and proud) and so I can find and get lost in the myriad of cover versions of songs I love, hate and don't like.

You let me sign into instant messaging which links directly to my email.

You let me use you to find interesting pieces of information about James Dean and Whales and the top 100 chick flicks and Nicki Minaj's alter-ego, Roman.

You also let me sign into my blog so I can keep up with important and not so important things and write a post once every 2 years.

You take my hand and guide me through the interwebs in a gently coaxing manner...sign into google chat, check your mail, check your blog, sign into Youtube so you can listen to some tunes while you type, have a random Rain Man scene flash through your head and then Google whether it really was from Rain Man.

I wish you could teach me proper punctuation and how to use the ellipses less...

Actually...this relationship is moving a little too fast for me. I barely know you and yet you can tell me what song I liked on Youtube and listened to last in 2007 and put on to a playlist so I could listen to it on repeat? (Imogen Heap - Speeding Cars)

I think you should learn about boundaries. But you're so pretty and smart, even though you literally have no social filter, I could let it all slide.

Google...I love you.

All my fear of abandonment.

Xxx K

Your musical home

What is it about the Kings of Leon that makes their music feel like home to me? This isn't a rhetorical question. I really want to know. I always thought, whenever I heard someone say something like that, "Yeah that's a little sappy don't you think?" but that sappy saying (It just feels like home) has just the right amount of the right words to make it completely fitting and completely true. In every song no matter how many times I've listened to them (and like damn 3,750 plays is a LOT of times)I always find new parts of lyrics or little nuances in the way some parts are sung or the drums are played or hidden in the baseline or in those dirty, filthy guitar licks...I always find something that makes my stomach do that little flip floppy thing. That thing it does when you hear the opening guitar on Pink Floyds - PlayPink Floyd – Wish You Were Here.

Kings of Leon – Arizona. It kills me. "I'll go stand up to the giants. Say that I'm a fighter." Now that I look at it all typed out that way...you don't really have to go searching for any kind of "deeper meaning" if you know what I mean. Still, maybe that's just it. The words are simple enough and yes they hit home but they still feel "deeper" than they actually are I suppose. This is where that whole "nuance" thing I was gabbing on about kicks in. It's the way he sings it. With his whole being. Like you know standing up to those giants and saying you're a fighter is the hardest and most brave thing you'll ever do. Well that ^ was a whole paragraph of absolute nothing. Funny...it sounded less ridiculous in my head...but still...it -is- / -was- in my head.

I should research it. This effect that music has on us. The chemical reactions and interactions and explosions. I know it exists but details I've never much bothered with when it came to these things. Though I am now on a mission.
